Gary first discovered the Tacoma Tool Library online while researching local community groups. Drawn to the idea of weekly Fix-it Nights, he decided to visit the Tacoma Public Library and see what it was all about. As a self-described, “lifelong, incurable, fixer”, he immediately felt a connection to the community and began volunteering to assist with repairs.

He is a dedicated volunteer at the Tacoma Tool Library, regularly participating in Fix-it Nights. He recognizes their importance in providing valuable assistance to the community, enjoys the satisfaction of helping others, and collaborating with fellow volunteers. The shared passion for fixing things among the community members creates a supportive and enjoyable environment. As he puts it, “It seems that most natural Fixers tend to get along well and enjoy each other.”

While Gary believes nearly anyone can fix things (and does), “over time I’ve found individuals like myself that have a knack for it.’” As a self-taught tradesman, he has built a successful career as an electrician and IBEW Journeyman Inside Wireman since the 1970s. Hailing from Illinois, he moved to the Tacoma area in 1995, drawn to the area’s beautiful scenery, mild weather, and economic opportunities. He was, “attracted to Tacoma by the beautiful scenery, the mild weather, and the economic conditions.”
