TTL: What is the biggest personal benefit you receive as a volunteer at the Tool Library?
CC: Meeting people—every TTL member I meet is someone who is trying to solve a problem or has an idea, and all of them are working to better their surroundings. That sort of contact inspires me and leaves me feeling energized at the end of a shift.
TTL: What have you learned through volunteering?
CC: Volunteering here has given me enough knowledge and confidence to tackle home repair jobs that I would never have considered doing myself in the past.
TTL: Is there anything you would like to see the Tool Library doing that we aren’t already doing?
CC: I’d love to have training sessions for both commonly tackled projects and technically challenging tools. I’d also like to see a way for members to easily share what they’re working on with each other or to collaborate on projects.
TTL: What do you like about living in Tacoma?
CC: Proximity to great outdoor activities. Where else can you take a break from foraging for mushrooms to watch salmon spawning in a city park’s creek?
